• Located at an altitude of 1,100m above sea level, Kyaikhiyo is a famous pagoda in Myanmar, due to its spectacular location. It is an exceptional beauty, which is both natural and spiritual, and not to be missed during your tours in Burma.

The legendary pagoda of Golden Rock

There are many different legends about this mysterious pagoda. But the legend most often transmitted by many people is the story about TaikTha, a hermit. During his visit to the Earth, the Buddha gave a privilege to a committee of monks to protect and preserve Buddhist treasures. The Buddha also graciously agreed to give them a sacred hair. One of the monks kept the Buddha's hair carefully in his boundless happiness. At the time of his death, he was warned by the King of Heaven. He wished to hand over the relic to his adopted child, King Tissa. After a long consideration, he decided to give the hair, but under the circumstance that the relic is stored in a rock in the shape of his head.
The King of Heaven agreed and went to the coast to look for a rock similar to his head and put it on a cliff. Then he created a hole so that the monk could place the sacred relic there. The monk was very happy and gave the relic of the Buddha respectfully. Thus the king built a new pagoda above the relic.
This temple was named Kyaikhiyo whose word "Kyaik" means "pagoda" and "HiYo" means "monk's head." The whole means a temple located at the top of the monk.
It is believed that thanks to the Buddha's hair, the Golden Rock has been in balance for hundreds of years.

    About the pagoda

The Kyaikhiyo Pagoda or the Golden Rock is located on the mountain of the same name, 200 km from Yangon. This pagoda was built in 2500 BC. And it is also one of the three most important pagodas to visit during Burma tours.
Located on a large rock of the hill of the same name, Kyaikhiyo attracts tourists thanks to the pagoda as well as the rock covered with gold. No matter the time of day, when the sun is present, the pagoda is as bright as a corner of sky. Yet, in the night, the golden temple is even more brilliant and more magical under the reflection of lights.
The Kyaikhiyo Pagoda of Myanmar has many Buddha statues placed in a special environment. Some statues are encrusted with thousands of diamonds, precious stones, and bells cast from gold.

Travel to Kyaikhiyo - a journey to a sacred land of Buddha in Myanmar

To come to worship Buddha and pray in the pagoda, people can only go by truck or walk through the forest to the foot of Mountain Kyaikhiyo. From the foot to the summit of the mountain, people must make the journey by road. On the way, there are no cables so you will have to rest by yourself. Of course, there is another way that will help you to spend less energy, which is by palanquin. It is a kind of hammock worn by four men. The visitor will sit in the middle. The price for each round is about 14USD, including 10 USD charge of the procession and 4 USD tip for men who carry you to the top of the pagoda. Normally it takes an hour to reach the summit.
Due to local traditions, the pagoda on the Golden Rock only allows men to approach near the rock and pagoda to pray or make a contribution to the pagoda. Women remain outside barriers.
Each day, the Kyaikhiyo Temple can accommodate hundreds of tourists and also groups of monks visiting the pagoda to beg for food.
According to the inhabitants of Myanmar, the pagoda on the Golden Rock is a sacred place. People who come here to pray and to admire the Buddha will be blessed. Therefore, if you have the opportunity to make the Myanmar travel, do not forget to visit the Kyaikhiyo Pagoda, one of the wonders of Southeast Asia.

Mandalay Hill - an attractive tourist destination in Mandalay

    Mandalay Hill
Upon arrival in the city, Mandalay Hill immediately draws all attention. The 230-meter hill is the hallmark of Buddhism, when King Mindon moved the Burmese capital to Mandalay in the 19th century. During his reign, he built many monasteries and was the instigator of a Buddhist writing carved out of precious stones.
Here, visitors to Myanmar can relax in a peaceful atmosphere. You can admire a magnificent panoramic view of Mandalay in the evening or morning dew from the top of the hill. This explains why the Mandalay Hill has become one of the most important and impressive sites of Mandalay.

    Royal Palace in Mandalay

The Royal Palace of Mandalay is located in a set of 413 acres and is famous for its fortified ramparts with beautiful moats around. The palace was built between 1857 and 1859. It operated as a permanent fort. Its 12 doors represent the 12 signs of the zodiac. The palace was burnt down due to a bomb during World War II, but was completely renovated in 1989 and became the most attractive tourist spot of Mandalay.
The palace opens a single door to foreigners. An entry ticket costs 10,000 kyats. In the palace, there are also residential areas as well as many other villages outside the palace. In the center is the main palace.

    Maha Myat Muni Pagoda

When you make your Burma tours, you will learn that Maha Myat Muni Pagoda is one of the popular attractions in Mandalay. What makes it particularly interesting is a bronze statue weighing 6.5 tons and measuring 4 m in height. The crown of the statue is generously decorated with innumerable rubies, emeralds and brilliant diamonds. Many Buddhist followers contributed with money, which allowed the whole of the Buddha statue to be covered with a layer of 15cm thick gold. For this reason, some tourists feel that the statue did not keep its original state.

    Kuthodaw Paya Pagoda

Located at the foot of Mandalay Hill, Kuthodaw Paya Pagoda is a popular tourist destination not only in Mandalay but also all over the world because it is a place where the world's greatest Buddhist scriptures are preserved. The Pagoda was built in the 1800s with more than 729 towers where stone tablets are carved with Buddha prayers. One feature that is unique and special in this famous pagoda is that many jasmines are planted here, which permeates the whole pagoda with a light and unique fragrance.

    Mahar Aung Myay Market

Talking about Mandalay in Burma makes us think of once about 3 things: jade, temples and teak wood. Maybe for this reason, if you make a Mandalay tour, it will be a great regret not to be able to visit the Mahar Aung Myay market. It is the most important place in the world for the trade of jade. Here, you can buy jewelry made of precious stones such as bracelets, rings, earrings, pendants. The price of the products is not expensive (or at least cheaper than in the West), so you can certainly buy beautiful gifts for your relatives and friends during your Myanmar tours.
A Mandalay tour can be both exciting and impressive. Finding the useful information before the tour will help you to explore as much as possible the beautiful sights of Burma. Our agency will accompany you in this exceptional discovery.

  • Yangon-Bagan is one of the most important routes in Myanmar, connecting the largest city and former capital (Yangon) and the most attractive tourist destination (Bagan) of the Golden Temple Country. Travelers can get from Yangon to Bagan by road (bus, taxi), railway or air. Among of them, taking a Yangon to Bagan flight is the easiest and most time-saving way to travel between two sites. The following is the practical information about the airway service.

Airlines offering Yangon to Bagan flight service

There are 8 out of 11 domestic airlines operating flights from Yangon to Bagan and vice versa. They are Air Bagan, Air KBZ, Air Mandalay, Asian Wings Airways, FMI Air, Golden Myanmar Airlines, Mann Yatanarpon Airlines and Yangon Airways. In general, each of the airlines has averagely 2 flights per day in the early morning (6-7 a.m.) and in the late afternoon (4-5 p.m.).
Ticket price: $95-155, depending on the booking time and the airline
Flight time: about 1h20m for a direct flight and 1h50m for a non-direct one (via Heho airport or Mandalay airport).

How to book a Yangon to Bagan flight

The best way to book a Yangon to Bagan flight for a Myanmar travel is via local travel agents which are omnipresent in Yangon. The agents have a close relationship with the airlines (they also play the role as passenger sales agents of the airlines). They know exactly the service policies, sales promotion programs, and flight cancellation information, and can give you useful advice. Before traveling to Yangon, it’s better for you to search some prestigious agent on the Internet, save their address and contact them if necessary. Note that the payment is commonly made in cash (US dollar). Some of the agents in Yangon include Exotic Myanmar Travels & Tours, Unique Myanmar Travels & Tours, and Myanmar Golden Image Travels & Tours.
If you spend several days at a Yangon hotel, you can ask the staff for booking the Yangon to Bagan flight. Note that they may surcharge you a small fee for this service.
We do not recommend booking the flight via the Internet as the online booking systems of some airlines operate improperly. In additions, a number of flights are canceled without updated notification sent to customers.
Note that at the peak of the high season, the ticket price is much higher and you have to book the ticket at least three days in advance for your Burma tours. The Air Bagan is probably the best airline for Yangon to Bagan flight service; they also have a quite good online booking system. However, you can choose from Air Mandalay, Mann Yatanarpon Airlines and Myanmar Airways.
